By Our Reporter

Two football players playing in the Kitunga League, also students of Bishop Stuart University have this morning died in an accident along the Mbarara Lyantode road.

The deceased have been identified as Asuman Kilabala alias Kibazo of Potts football club and resident of Kabwohe Sheema district, and Ashiru Agaba of Kanyampumo Kajara and a player of Kahonda Football club both teams playing in the Kitunga League.

Kitunga League was started by the old boys of Muntuyera High School Kitunga in Ntungamo district.

The accident that occurred Sunday morning at Akyapa along the Mbarara Lyantonde road involved two motor vehicles, a Toyota Spacio silver in colour registeration number UBC 554D whose driver was yet to be identified and a Tata lorry white in colour registration number UBH 961W driven by Gessa Abaala Abdala, a 41years old a resident of Gaba Bukunja in Buikwe District.

It’s alleged that the driver of Toyota Spacio who was driving from Mbarara side heading to Kampala, lost control of the motor vehicle due to over speeding, drifting from his lane and ramming into the Tata Lorry which was coming from the opposite direction.

Marvin Orishaba, an eyewitness alleges that the driver of the Toyota Spacio was driving at a high speed while taking a corner so he ended up on the wrong side of the road.

Samson Kasasira the Rwizi region police spokesperson says two of Toyota Spacio occupants died on the spot while two others survived with severe injuries.

Davies Mishare the coordinator Kitunga League says the two were to play in today’s games between Potts Fc and Kyasha Fc and Kahonda FC was to play against Omuti FC.

He adds that they have postponed the games that were to be played today to allow the burial of the two.

Kasasira says the bodies were transported to Kasambya mortuary in Lyantonde District for postmortem while the injured victims were rushed to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital in a critical condition for treatment by good Samaritans.

He adds that efforts to identify the victims are still ongoing while the motor vehicles were towed and parked at Sanga Police Station awaiting the Inspector of Vehicles to examine them.
