This week, State House Anti Corruption Unit in collaboration with Uganda Police arraigned two senior Lira Local Government land management officers, Ocen Joseph Alwong and Opio Francis, before the Lira Magistrate’s Court.
The duo faces charges of abuse of office and conspiracy to defraud. It is alleged that between February 2019 and October 2020, while acting in their official capacities, the accused facilitated the irregular issuance of a freehold certificate of title for land belonging to Lira District.
The title was issued in the name of Ocen Joseph Alwong’s daughter, falsely claiming her as the customary owner. They have been remanded.
