The New features introduced to the New IDs by NIRA.

Uganda’s National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has unveiled a new upgraded National ID card with advanced security features to prevent counterfeiting and enhance ease of use. Here’s what’s new:

Key Features:

Biometric Data: Fingerprints and iris scans for extra identity verification

Laser Engraving Technology: Embeds multiple images within the card for authenticity

Machine Readable Zone (MRZ): Allows quick data reading by scanning devices

2D Barcode: Stores encrypted data for rapid verification

Digital Integration: Supports online and offline verification, digital signatures, and secure credential access

Benefits

Enhanced Security: Reduces forgery risk and ensures accurate identification

Streamlined Service Access: Compatible with eGovernment services, mobile and tablet platforms

Efficient Governance: Facilitates access to public services, financial inclusion, and national security

NIRA plans to deploy 5,500 biometric kits nationwide for the upcoming enrollment exercise, ensuring a smooth registration process.
