Northern Uganda’s hospitality scene witnessed a moment of pride over the weekend as Acholi Inn Hotel welcomed Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, Uganda’s foremost businessman and philanthropist, during the Rajiv Ruparelia Memorial Rally 2025.

In a heartfelt message shared on X (formerly Twitter), the hotel described Dr. Sudhir’s visit as “an honour beyond words,” highlighting the prestige and inspiration his presence brought to the northern hospitality landmark.

“We were deeply honored to host Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, one of Uganda’s most distinguished entrepreneurs, here at Acholi Inn Hotel during the Rajiv Memorial Rally weekend. Your visit added great prestige to our home of Northern hospitality. We celebrate your continued support for sports, tourism, and Uganda’s growth,” the hotel posted online.

The tribute reflects the warm welcome extended to the Ruparelia family in Gulu, where thousands gathered to celebrate the life of the late Rajiv Ruparelia — a visionary entrepreneur, rally driver, and philanthropist who tragically passed away in a car crash on May 3, 2025.

The rally, which marked the sixth round of the Uganda National Rally Championship (NRC), spanned 260 kilometers, including 132.6 kilometers of competitive stages, drawing top drivers like Ronald Sebuguzi, Ponsiano Lwakataka, Nasser Mutebi, and Duncan Mubiru. The event blended fierce competition with heartfelt remembrance, bringing motorsport fans and communities together in honor of Rajiv’s legacy.

As chief guest, Dr. Sudhir lauded the organizers and participants for keeping his late son’s memory alive while promoting youth engagement and sports tourism. “Rajiv’s legacy will live on through this memorial rally, which aims to promote motorsport and give back to the community,” he said.

In a gesture cementing Rajiv’s enduring impact, Gulu City Council announced plans to name a major road “Rajiv Ruparelia Road”, a tribute that will permanently honor his contributions to both business and sport. Mayor Alfred Okwonga described the decision as a symbol of Rajiv’s energy and vision, which continue to inspire northern Uganda.

For Acholi Inn, hosting Dr. Sudhir during such a historic weekend highlighted the hotel’s growing role as a hub for tourism, national events, and community engagement. The tribute also underscores the Ruparelia family’s broader contributions to Uganda’s development, spanning real estate, education, philanthropy, and sports.

As engines fell silent after two days of high-octane excitement, Gulu was left not just with memories of a thrilling rally but with a celebration of legacy, community, and the lasting influence of a family that continues to drive Uganda forward.
