Hon. Amongi Denies Alleged Destruction of President Museveni’s Campaign Materials

A contentious video circulating in Lira City allegedly portrays Hon. Betty Amongi destroying President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s posters and T-shirts. However, multiple credible sources indicate that these claims may be politically motivated and misleading.

According to reports, the incident traces back to 23rd October 2025, when Boda Boda riders were reportedly hired by Hon. Ruth Achieng, the Minister of Health, to escort her to the Electoral Commission offices for her nomination. Each rider was allegedly promised UGX 20,000 and provided with T-shirts and posters bearing Hon. Achieng’s image.

After the event, the riders reportedly did not receive the promised payment. Frustrated, they attempted to voice their grievances through local radio stations, but their appearances were allegedly blocked following interventions from Hon. Achieng’s team.

Seeking redress, the riders reportedly approached Hon. Betty Amongi, whom they described as accessible and willing to listen to the public’s concerns. Upon arrival at her residence, they encountered several women’s groups similarly aggrieved over unfulfilled promises from Hon. Achieng’s team.

In an effort to calm tensions and prevent destruction of property, Hon. Amongi allegedly advised the riders and women not to damage any campaign materials belonging to Hon. Achieng. She reportedly collected the items to ensure they could be safely returned to the originating camp.

Despite these efforts, a video later surfaced alleging that Hon. Amongi destroyed President Museveni’s campaign materials. Observers claim this may be a misrepresentation of the events, potentially intended to tarnish her reputation.

Hon. Amongi has reaffirmed her respect for President Museveni, stating that she has never and would never engage in any action that disrespects the President or the symbols of the National Resistance Movement.

The controversy highlights broader issues surrounding the treatment of local supporters and campaign teams. Allegations suggest that frustrations stemmed from unfulfilled promises by Hon. Achieng’s team rather than any action by Hon. Amongi.

Hon. Amongi continues to advocate for peaceful, transparent, and accountable political engagement, emphasizing that genuine leadership requires respect for both citizens and their contributions.
