Comedian Eric Omondi Arrested Protesting On Horse Outside Parliament Days After Death Of His Brother

By Our Reporter

Kenan Police officers manning Kenyan parliament buildings on Friday, June 21, arrested country’s popular comedian Eric Omondi.

The comedian was arrested after staging demonstrations outside the Bunge Towers in protests against the contagious Finance Bill 2024.

In the widely circulated videos, Eric Omondi could be captured seated on top of a horse while making anti-tax chant towards the officers who were watching from a distance.

However, the protests were cut short after police officers intervened to quell the escalating demonstrations.

The officers could be captured stealthily rushing towards the comedian before dislodging him from the top of a horse.

The officers could then be seen whipping the comedian severally before detaining him.

Omondi dared the police to kill him, arguing that he was not afraid of death.

“Come and kill me, my brother was also killed,” he shouted moments before he was arrested.

Omondi was in the company of fellow protesters who scampered away leaving him helplessly crawling on the surface of the road leading to parliament as the officers dealt with him.

The incident comes barely a fortnight after the comedian was arrested while demonstrating outside the same buildings against the proposed tax measures.

Similarly, the officers who were protecting the premises corned the self-proclaimed activist and detained him inside one of the rooms near the tower.

Despite the comedian being handcuffed, he adamantly shouted as he attempted to rally the protestors to back him up.

The protestors could be spotted holding huge placards as they demanded the intervention of Members of Parliament on the controversial bill.

While demonstrating, the protestors of whom a majority were women clad in sack clothes accused the legislators of betrayal amidst claims of planning to approve the Finance bill into law.
