President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has urged Ugandans to celebrate the men and women who gave their lives during the nation’s liberation struggles, stating that their legacy should motivate today’s generation to safeguard Uganda’s gains and work toward a stronger future.
The President’s remarks were delivered by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja on his behalf at the Spiritual Revival of the Fallen Warriors ceremony, held at the Office of the NRM National Chairman in Kyambogo.
In his address, Museveni noted that liberation heroes were not limited to those who fought on the frontlines, but also included the countless ordinary citizens, especially peasants, who supported the cause. He warned that a nation risks losing its identity if it fails to remember those who died for it.
According to the President, true tribute to the fallen goes beyond remembrance and prayer; it requires diligence, integrity, patriotism, and active involvement in national growth. He credited the liberation generation’s sacrifices with restoring Uganda’s dignity and setting the stage for the country’s political and economic rebuilding.
Museveni also called on citizens to safeguard the achievements made since 1986, stressing that every Ugandan has a duty to ensure the fallen warriors’ sacrifices keep yielding benefits for generations ahead.
Turning to the youth, the President encouraged them to learn the history of the liberation struggle in order to grasp the real meaning of heroism and to appreciate those who made genuine sacrifices for the nation. He recommended his book *Sowing the Mustard Seed, including its second edition, alongside other historical accounts of Uganda’s liberation.
Looking back on the nation’s path, Museveni acknowledged that today’s peace and stability did not come easily, but were secured through great sacrifice and bloodshed. He closed on an optimistic note, expressing confidence that Uganda has made major strides and remains firmly on an upward trajectory.
