The Directorate of Welfare, Production and Sports, in partnership with Roofings Group Uganda, has launched the distribution of 50,000 mango, avocado and jackfruit seedlings to police officers across the country.
Officers Urged to Embrace the Initiative
Speaking at the launch, Acting Director of Welfare, Production and Sports, SCP Timothy Halango, urged officers to embrace the initiative, emphasising the importance of accountability through regular follow-ups to ensure the seedlings are properly nurtured and put to productive use.
Rollout Underway at Nsambya Barracks
So far, 106 officers at Nsambya Barracks have benefited from the programme, with plans underway to expand the initiative to police units nationwide.
The seedling distribution forms part of broader efforts to promote welfare and self-sustaining livelihood projects among police officers, encouraging agricultural production as a means of supplementing household incomes and improving food security within police communities.
