SUCCESS STORY: PDM SUPPORT EMPOWERS LIVESTOCK FARMER IN NAMUTUMBA DISTRICT

The Parish Development Model (PDM), implemented under the stewardship of the Government of Uganda and supervised through established government structures, continues to transform the livelihoods of rural households by providing access to financial resources for productive investments.

Ms. Nangobi Faridah, a 52-year-old resident of Nabukalu B Village, Magada North Parish, Magada Sub-county in Namutumba District, is one of the beneficiaries whose life has been positively impacted by the programme. Prior to receiving PDM funds, she faced financial challenges and lacked productive assets that could provide economic security or serve as a source of income during difficult times.

Upon receiving support under the PDM programme, Ms. Nangobi invested UGX 880,000 in the purchase of a calf. Through proper care and management, the livestock enterprise has grown significantly in value. Today, the animal and its offspring are estimated to be worth approximately UGX 4,000,000, representing a substantial return on her initial investment.

In addition to the increase in asset value, livestock farming has enhanced her household’s economic stability. The cows provide milk for home consumption and sale whenever they calve, creating an additional source of income and improving household nutrition.

Ms. Nangobi attributes her progress to the opportunities created through the Parish Development Model, which enabled her to invest in a productive enterprise that continues to generate value for her family. She expressed appreciation to the Government of Uganda and H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for championing initiatives aimed at improving household incomes and empowering communities to participate in the country’s socio-economic transformation.

Her story demonstrates how strategic investment of PDM funds in livestock production can strengthen household resilience, build wealth, and contribute to sustainable livelihoods among rural communities.
