The Parish Development Model (PDM) continues to create opportunities for socio-economic transformation by enabling households to invest in productive enterprises and improve their standards of living. One such beneficiary is Mr. Gayuga Joshua, a 49-year-old resident of Iwungiro Central A Village, Iwungiro Ward, Nangonde Town Council, Namutumba District.
Mr. Gayuga received PDM funds in 2023 and made a strategic investment by purchasing a cow worth UGX 980,000. The livestock enterprise soon began yielding positive results when the cow gave birth to a calf. Upon maturity, the calf was sold, and the proceeds were reinvested in goat rearing, a venture that has since expanded significantly through natural multiplication.
The growing goat enterprise has become a reliable source of income for Mr. Gayuga and his family. Through the proceeds generated, he has been able to pay school fees for his children, acquire a plot of land, and purchase a house in Nangonde Town Council. These achievements have greatly improved the welfare and economic security of his household.
Reflecting on his journey, Mr. Gayuga expressed deep appreciation for the Parish Development Model and the opportunities it has created for ordinary citizens. He noted that the programme has transformed his life and enabled him to achieve milestones that previously seemed beyond reach. In his words, if given the opportunity, he would present one of his biggest goats to H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as a gesture of gratitude for the initiative that has positively changed his family’s future.
Mr. Gayuga’s success story demonstrates the importance of prudent investment and reinvestment of PDM funds in productive enterprises. His experience highlights how the programme is empowering beneficiaries to build assets, increase household incomes, improve access to education, and create sustainable livelihoods.
The continued success of beneficiaries such as Mr. Gayuga underscores the transformative impact of the Parish Development Model in advancing household wealth creation and promoting inclusive socio-economic development across communities.
